We haven’t had a “featured grandmother” in quite a while, so it was wonderful to hear from Debbie Johnson today and have a chance to share her story with you. I hope you enjoy reading it…oh, and if you would like to be featured, please write to me at claudiascorner[at]gmail.com.
————-
After receiving a legal secretarial degree from Bryant and Stratton and working at GE for engineers for six years, I quit to raise our two boys, born exactly one year and three weeks apart. (My husband said, “We’re not going to have your mom watch TWO, are we? Mind you, I was sobbing at the time as he went out the door with our oldest.)
Seven years later a third son arrived on the scene and I worked at a quaint little local restaurant an evening or two a week to bring in a little extra cash. (And, admittedly, to remind myself that I still could “process thoughts” – Oh, the stories I can tell!!)
I’m thankful to have been able to work around our family, but where does a closing-in-on-40 year old woman go to find a job? For me it was an Oral Surgery satellite office 20 minutes away which I managed for two doctors. They kindly allowed me the opportunity to work while updating my computer/office skills. Six years later, with one son in college, another a senior in high school and the third closing in on high school, I needed a full-time job to help with college expenses and high school extra-curricular activity bills. And that is how I ended up at a local business as a sales coordinator for nine years.vI know – trained for lawyers and worked for engineers, doctors and salesmen – nothing “relates”, does it? Plus, nobody needs “secretaries” anymore – everyone does their own thing on computers! And, NOW I’m closing in on SIXTY!!
After we were blessed with 6 (yes, six!) grandchildren, with two more on the way, I left that job two years ago. In hindsight I am even more thankful because my father went to be with the Lord (and mom) this past Dec. 26. These past two years were filled with many medical appointments for him that I am SO thankful I could do. (I was thankful at the time, but even more so now!) I LOVE being with my grandchildren, but I’d also like to help my husband financially. Plus, they say our brains “go to mush” if we don’t use them.
Ameriplan®, USA, offers the chance for me to do it all. Yes, it’s network marketing and I’m learning, learning, learning – which is FUN! It’s VERY affordable to begin your own business. Plus, this company provides things I NEED in addition to a paycheck – discounts for dental, vision, prescription and chiropractic needs, as well as help with child ID, legal fees, medical expenses, identity theft (the fastest growing crime in America) and much more.
If you’d like to check out what this company has to offer, please visit one of my websites at:

Or I’d love to hear from you via e-mail at DJohnson70@ameriplan.net or by phone at 716-355-4223.
We women need to STICK TOGETHER!! And we aren’t getting older, we’re GETTING BETTER!!
God Bless you all!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Sponsored Tweets. All opinions are 100% mine.
I do a few things to bring in extra income as a woman who works at home. Just a few weeks ago I was able to transfer $50.00 into my PayPal account because I’ve been doing a little “tweeting” for different advertisers that I’m connected to by IZEA.
How is this done?
- First you have to be a member of Twitter and have a following, the more followers you have, the more appealing you will be to potential advertisers.
- Next you are going to want to sign up for sponsored tweets which isn’t hard to do at all.
- After you have signed up for your account (much of the sign up information you will provide is in the image below), and have it “connected” to your Twitter account (this all happens automatically as you go through the sign up process), you will wait for advertisers to discover you and offer you things to tweet about.

How do you know you have been offered an opportunity? You will be contacted by email or through a Direct Message on Twitter, your choice, and will have a few days to respond by either accepting or refusing the offer.
Something I like is the disclosure feature that they have, within each tweet you are required to include a word that indicates that the tweet is an ad, sponsored, etc., you can choose which word you want to include within your tweet if you choose to write your own tweets…oh yes, that’s another thing…you can choose to have the sponsor write the tweet, or you can write your own, I write my own.
Then you send your “tweet” through the sponsored tweet site for approval by the advertiser, and they are “tweeted” for you when approved. You receive a message by email letting you know what is happening each step of the way.
There is also a new “API”, to be honest with you, I’m still learning about that one. But you’ll find out all you need to know at the site. There are quite a few celebrity “tweeters” using the site, like Leann Rimes, Bob Vila and more.
So take a little time to check this out…bit by bit the money builds up, and before you know it, you have enough to transfer to your account. It’s so easy!

Sandy has been married about 20 years, and has at least 2 grandchildren. She has two children, a son and daughter…just like me:-)
Sandy shares personal insights and business ideas at her blog. Stop by and pay her a visit…her posts are great and maybe it will encourage her to share even more. You’ll find a picture of her there with her grandchildren.

I’m still contemplating changing the template to this blog, it’s been nice looking at Spring flowers, but I think it’s time to go for a more professional look. But before I take time to do that, let me invite you to join me as I do what was suggested in lesson 2 of the 31 Days to a Better Blog challenge (I think you can still join!).
Over the year, we’ve featured a number of grandmothers and their work at home businesses. I want to list them here in one post for you, to encourage or inspire you, if you are still trying to find your “niche”. Click the Grandmother’s name to visit their post for a lot more information about them, and how they started their business.
- Angie Baker is an example of someone who has taken a craft that she loves, jewelry making, and turned it into a business.
- Paula Jackson is a grandmother that I have known “virtually” for a number of years, and helps people keep their homes clean and healthy without polluting the environment.
- Darlene Demell is another grandmother in Canada who has a home business that provides delicious things to enhance your meals, your health and your home.
- Jackie Thompson’s post is a popular stop, she has built a business out of making military purses…her story is wonderful, do stop by for a visit.
- Self-Taught Artist - this is a grandmother I found while searching the internet, and was fascinated by her story and video, she has never attended art school, but is a talented self-taught portrait artist.
- Karen is a grandmother with a unique situation, all 3 of her children were born on the same date…no, they aren’t triplets, they were born the same date but different years. Read about how she works at home in the country.
- Rita Sweet is another crafty grandmother who has started her own business making soap…you have to visit and see her hand made crayons, your children and grandchildren will love them!
That is only a few in the list, please contact me if I can feature you, it would be my pleasure to do so! The only requirement is that you be a grandmother, a grandma “wanna be” like me, or “old” enough to be a grandmother.

Today I thought I’d share one of the ways that I make income at home.
I have been selling on eBay for years on and off to bring in a part time income, and find it a fun and rewarding way to supplement your income, because I am selling things that interest me. You don’t have to do this as your primary business, but there are many that do.
I did what they call a “lens” on Squidoo called “Selling Old Books, Paper & Ephemera“, because that is what I specialize in, but the information is helpful to anyone who is interested in beginning with eBay.
Following is an article with information about a training program for those who may be interested in doing this in a bigger way. The prices may have changed depending upon when this article was written.

A Review of the Sky High Auctions Ebay Power Sellers Course
By: Brian Garvin
They must be doing something right because a small number of Ebay power sellers made over 11 million dollars last year. Yes, that is right, over 11 million dollars. Sky High Auctions has come up with a plan for creating power sellers that can make money if they go by the plan designed for them. Well, who is group that is so good at teaching others how to make money, you ask?
Sky High Auctions is a group of Ebay power sellers with experience in earning money from online auctions on Ebay. It is credited with the following steps that will make you a power seller too. Therefore, if you are tired of working your life away for someone else, you should take a close look at the courses that have been developed for teaching how to get the maximum income from your Ebay selling.
What Do The Courses Do for You?
1) They teach you the precise products that you should sell for the maximum return.
2) You will learn how to source these products.
3) A course includes how to get your customers to purchase your products over and over.
4) A tutorial on setting up your own website from which to sell your products will be another benefit of these courses.
5) You need an auto responder to save you time and money by answering your emails as they come in. so that your customers will not think that you are a stranger.
The power sellers that make up the Sky High Auctions group come from all over the world. They each have an area in which they are experts. Fifteen members have created the course that shows an ordinary person how to create an income they can be proud of.
Here is a fact that should give you plenty to think about. The fifteen power sellers who started the Skyline Auctions group have made $4 million this year. This is only the second year they have been operating and selling on Ebay.
Since there are over 800,000 sellers on Ebay making either a full time living or part time, this fact is not surprising. Now this company has realized that some people are not going to believe that it is possible to make the amount of money that is being claimed. That is why if you go check them out, read the testimonials, and still you do not believe, they are offering free lesson, 6 of them to show you some of the ways you can make money on Ebay.
This website explains the importance of some items that you must have to be successful at selling your items on Ebay. Like for instance an auto responder as mentioned above. The necessity of having an auto responder is that it can do in a few minutes what it may take you hours to do. Plus, you do not need to be tied up for hours responding to email if you are going to be concentrating on making money.
The Skyline Auctions group promises that you will be satisfied with your purchase and if not they do have a refund policy of 100 money back if you are not. At the present time, this program is selling for $267, which is down from the regular price of $497.

Today I am happy to introduce you to a very “sweet” grandmother by the name of Rita Sweet. Rita has tried a couple of home businesses, and in the process has found her niche, and rather than tell you about it, I’m going to let Rita share herself. Please read on, and be inspired! Visit her site, maybe you’ll see something crafted by Rita that will be just the right hand-crafted gift for someone you love.
I live on the Oregon Coast with my retired husband. For years I have tried to live as healthy a life as possible. I know it is impossible to eliminate all toxins from our lives, as they are in the very air we breathe!
I have sold products for companies, that I have felt were safe. As time went by, I realized that I knew how to make a lot of these products at home. So I began doing just that! Now I KNOW they are natural as possible.
Companies are not required to list all the ingredients they include in personal body products. That scares me a bit. Thus, my little at home business began.
I have just started building my web site, where I offer coconut oil based soaps. There is an article on my page telling you why I use coconut oil!
My signature product ,Kids Soap Crayons, has proven to be a really big hit! It makes bath time fun! My neighbor’s grand-daughter was visiting and was given a box of the soap crayons. The little girl wanted to go right home (a two hour drive) so she could take a bath!
What I do promise is a quality product at as reasonable price as I can possible offer. All products are made with love! These products are *From My Heart to Your Home”.
I also have a new yahoo group called “Gals Go Green“, where I share and want you to share your recipes and tips!
Please leave me a message on my web site, Rita Sweet Soaps, guest book!
Hugs and Blessings
Rita

Here is a cute and VERY funny story written by friend and parenting expert, Pat Montgomery. You’ll see she’s also learning a lot about Grandparenting, too.
After you read this delightful story, please be sure to visit her sites through the links below. She has a great radio show and a book available through any book seller and her website.
GRANDMA NEEDS TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE
This week I babysat two of the grandkids (ages 1 1/2 and almost 3), which is challenging in itself. Add to that me trying to make some business calls and it was a very full day.
After his nap the older one, who is not potty trained, was dry so I asked if he wanted to go potty. Telling me NO, he ran into the other room. Not willing to give up, I followed him and commenced a discussion about “big boy pants”. He asked if Uncle Mike wore big boy pants. I said yes. Then he asked if Mommy wore big boy pants to which I, of course, said yes.
He ran (Benton never walks anywhere…he either rides or runs) to the cabinet and pulled out a pair of Lightning McQueen big boy pants. Patiently I explained that he had to pee in the potty before he could wear them. Finally I had victory. He crawled up on the potty and peed. Yea, I was so good. Silently I congratulated myself at how clever I had been.
That was when he asked for toilet paper. I wanted to encourage him so I handed him a couple of squares of toilet paper. Holding them in his small hand, he looked at me as if to ask what he was supposed to do with the paper. Immediately, I told him to wipe his pee-pee (what I called my boys’ penises at that age.)
Again he looked at me with a funny look on his face, which should have clued me in to a problem. Before I realized what was happening, he reached into the water and started wiping where his body fluids had just changed the toilet water yellow. Yes, he was doing exactly what I told him to do–wiping the pee-pee.

I just received the following email from another WAHG sharing a bit about herself, her grandchildren, and her business. Enjoy!
Just read your blog. This is the first I’ve ever seen WAHG but I love it! And the beautiful photo on your blog.
I am a mom of 4 ages 29, 26 , 16 and 13 and a “Gigi” to my 2 grandchildren ages 12 and 5. I have been married to my second husband Roger for almost 18 years. My first husband died in a car accident 20 years ago.
I just was riding in the car with my 5 year granddaughter, Shayla, today and she said “Gigi, I love you so much”. I said “I love you, too, Shayla, you are the sweetest girl on earth.” She replied” You’re right, I AM the sweetest girl on earth”. Don’t you love the innocence and pure truth in a child?
I have been fortunate to work part-time or be in my own network marketing or direct sales business for the past 20+ years so that I could have the freedom to spend time with my children and grandchildren, my husband and my friends. They are what matters most in my life, along with my relationship with Jesus. Money is just the way to pay the bills and have the freedom and ability to do the things I want with those precious in my life. It was important to me to be a mom who could go on my children’s school field trips and be homeroom mom for holiday parties.
One of our favorite traditions is a trip to North Myrtle Beach with all my children and grandchildren and even last year, the great grandmas. We love to share one big condo and all wake as we want, leisurely make our way to the beach or pool, take turns cooking dinner, go play miniature golf and maybe take one “tourist” trip somewhere together. It’s like a little bit of heaven on earth.
I LOVE to read so that is one of my favorite pastimes at the beach also. I have a book in just about every room of my house, as well as in my car, ready for when I have to wait in the car for some reason. One of my dreams is to write a book and I believe it won’t be long before I reach that goal.
My business is as an independent distributor for Mia Bella Gourmet Candles. I have been as avid candle lover for most of my adult life. I always have them burning when company is expected, to relax in the evenings, to reduce odors in the bathroom and kitchen, to chase away gloomy days and chilly evenings. I have preferred jar candles for the past 10 years because they can be burned a short period or for hours on end and the flame is contained. But I hated the black soot that would gather on the sides of the jar and unfortunately, often on my walls, too. So, I was delighted when I discovered Mia Bella candle jars which burn virtually soot free. First I signed up just to buy the candles at wholesale but it wasn’t long until I realized this was the business for me now.
I just returned from our national conference and was so impressed with the integrity, love of people and warmth of our three company owners (one the candle developer, one the business leader, one the financial leader) and the leaders in our company. It is a debt-free company and just hitting year 6 so there is so much potential. I feel very blessed to be doing something I love, keeping my home beautiful and sweet-smelling, and building my business to financial freedom and more time to be a “Gigi”.
